One of the most successful and eye-catching Porsche cars in history is the 917. The car debuted at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show, but it would make history once it hit the track!
The 917 was the fastest car that Porsche had ever built at the time, with a 4.5 liter flat 12 engine that could propel the car at speeds in excess of 300 kilometers per hour. While the car wasn’t lacking in the power department, its handling was not up to standard. The drivers often struggled to wrestle the car around the track, and keeping the 917 on the tarmac was often compared to trying to steer a wild boar through an ice rink
Although not an original 930 tartan pattern, the Magnus is a tribute to Magnus Walker's own plaid designs. Who's he? If you need to ask you're probably not a petrolhead. Magnus Walker is a fashion designer, style icon, automobile enthusiast—and owner of one of the world's most astonishing collections of Porsches, particularly 930 911 Turbos.
One of the original tartan patterns available for the 930's seat upholstery.First recorded around the year 1830, the MacLachlan Clan wore a red, blue and green variation of the Black Watch. In the original 930 catalogs, it was called Shottenkaro.
In the early 1970s, Saab introduced the 99 EMS to the market. Right up until the 99 Turbo was released, the EMS was not only the top model from Saab's own assembly in Trollhättan, it was also the sportiest. In addition to its commercial success, the 99 EMS made its appearance known in the rallies and marked a generation alongside its notorious driver behind the wheel, Stig Blomqvist, the real and original Stig! While the virtuous driver was consecrated World Champion with Audi, he immortalised Saab in the dust.
In the '80s, "The A-Team" had every kid glued to the screen and dreaming about the coolest van of all time. Driven by B.A. Baracus it powerslided and jumped through TV-unprecedented doses of explosions and gunfire while the Team saved the world and made us pity the fools, one episode at a time.Despite riveting performances all around, the real star of the show was a GMC V8 van with quad tip exhaust and a custom Black and Gun Metal Grey paint job with a Red Stripe across it that ends in a rear wing, red bespoke wheels and fog lights - a lot of them. This enduring pop culture symbol is a worthy addition to our Screen Heroes collection and a tribute and toast to our childhood dreams.

A rare gem of auto history, this one of a kind Aston Martin DBS V8 raced in the Le Mans 24h and simultaneously broke the record for fastest caravan towing (apparently that's a thing), and along the way earned itself the nickname "The Muncher" for its insatiable appetite for brake discs.

After becoming the big fish of European rally, Audi packed its Quattro system and five-cylinder turbo and crossed the ocean to conquer the tracks of the United States. The pinnacle of that effort was the Audi 90 IMSA GTO, a car that literally and figuratively showed its rear end to nearly every competitor it came across.

The year was 1999. The new-team-on-the-block BAR left everyone scratching their heads at the sight of 2 different cars, while simultaneously setting a new record for fastest to get in trouble with the FIA. The result was what became known as the "zipper livery", a first-of-its-kind hybrid - and, as far as we know, last.

The P-47 Thunderbolt was the largest, heaviest, and most expensive single-engined fighter aircraft in history. The "Big Stud" was flown over Europe during WW2 by an American Ace who led the 325th Fighter Group. Originally planned to be a lightweight interceptor, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt evolved into a heavyweight fighter plane, weighing up to eight tons when fully loaded. It was the largest single-engined fighter of its era and a vast improvement over its predecessor, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. With twice the weight of a Spitfire and an 18-cylinder, 2,600-horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp that could push her to over 440mph and up to 40,000 feet. The T-Bolt started flying in the United States Army Air Forces in 1942. Its primary armament was eight .50 calibre machine guns, quite useful in high-altitude escort missions. But it was in ground attack sorties that the P-47 proved most effective. As a low-level fighter-bomber, it would be armed with 5-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 lb (1,100 kg). The P-47 quickly gained a reputation for ruggedness. Its sturdy construction and air-cooled radial engine enabled the Thunderbolt to absorb severe battle damage and keep flying. One of the Jug's most notorious party tricks was the ability to out-dive other aircraft, using its weight to turn the tables in a dogfight. It quickly became one of the most used fighters by the USAAF in World War II while also serving with other Allied air forces. It flew over half a million missions, destroyed 7,000 enemy aircraft on the ground and in the air, and had an aerial kill ratio of almost 5:1. As an incredible testament to its service by wars end, less than 1 per cent of P-47 Thunderbolts were lost in action. Somewhat of a modern-day counterpart, the A-10 Thunderbolt II 'Warthog' shares its name and function. The Big Stud. The P-47D-10, 42-75008, 'Big Stud' was flown by Lt. Col. Robert Baseler, an American Ace in the European Theatre, during his tenure as Commanding Officer of the 325th Fighter Group from April 1943 to April 1944. Baseler, whose military decorations include, among many others, a Purple Heart, scored his sixth and final victory in the 'Big Stud' in 1944.

In the late 1950s, the CIA commissioned a top-secret project dubbed 'Archangel', to fly faster and higher than anything before - or since -, invisible as a ghost. The most iconic aircraft of the Cold War was born, the impossibly futuristic spy plane SR-71 Blackbird.
Forty-something years ago a legend was born. The 3.5 inline-six M1 was the first car to be entirely developed by BMW's M division and was designed from scratch for a life on the track. You can think of it as the great-grandfather of all M BMWs, a dynasty that has since done so much to help shape and push forward the sports car segment while amassing a global legion of devote followers.Originally planned to be a collaboration between BMW and Lamborghini, the M1 was launched in 1978 with only about 450 units of the mid-engined hand-built bavarian unicorn ever being produced. And, with a top speed of 260 km/h, it was "Germany's fastest sports car" and therefore crowned Kaiser of the Autobahns. But BMW's plan went far beyond just creating an amazingly good sports car that also looked the part. In 1979 the BMW Procar Series came along, a one-make racing championship starring a beefed-up 310 km/h version of the M1 and, in spite of its 2-season only short lifespan, went down in history as a spectacular star-incrusted motorsport event, with a parade of F1 drivers joining in on the fun - Andretti, Fittipaldi, Hunt, Lauda, Piquet and Prost just to name a few. Spoiled for choice, we went with the BASF livery - does the word cassette ring any bells? - in part because of its unique and remarkable design, but mostly because it made the biggest exhaust flames of the lot. Seriously, google "M1 BASF flamethrower".You're welcome!

Launched in 2009, the S1000RR, like so many of BMW's endeavors, went straight to the top of the two-wheel food chain, the epitome of design, technology and sheer performance. It holds the record for fastest Isle of Man lap - although we guess Michael Dunlop probably deserves some recognition as well. That achievement alone is reason enough for our unconditional love. I mean being the fastest at the Tourist Trophy really puts the super in superbike. Custom made for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team as official team wear, these socks are widely believed to shave a few tenths in every lap time.

Esprit. Lotus Esprit. The Lotus Esprit S1 was the first version of the mythical british model, a car that became known for its avant garde shape and great handling mostly due to Lotus' relentless weight reduction obsession. But it was when it plunged into the Mediterranean and transformed in to an impossibly cool submarine in one of the most surprising car chases in any 007 movie, a move that made Bond and car fans around the world gasp. As well as being an amphibian it could shoot torpedoes, drop sea mines and launch surface to air missiles. If only modern SUV's could keep up with 1970's technology...

Launched in 1975, Ford's Escort MkII RS1800 is arguably the single greatest culprit for the Blue Oval's achievement of rally superpower status, back in the late '70s. It's also one of the most requested designs by RS fans the world over. This modest family sedan was just one of those cars that almost instantly rose to cult status, mostly due to being able to achieve tremendous success in Rally competition, right from the very beginning of its long and triumphant career.Driven again and again to victory by the likes of Vatanen and Mikkola - and in the way beating fierce competitors like the Porsche 911 and Lancia Stratos - it was at the hands of Björn Waldegård that Ford finally pulled off a World Champion title in 1979 and established itself, once for and all, as a consummate Rally top dog.

The Williams FW16 competed in the 1994 Formula One season and was raced by British driver Damon Hill to finish runner-up in the 1994 World Drivers Championship. Unfortunately it was also the car in which Ayrton Senna was killed during the third race of the 1994 season. This is our tribute to the greatest F1 driver of all time. The inspiration for the sock design comes from the Rothmans cigarettes sponsorship livery.

The car that invented the hot hatch set a pretty high bar for all that came after it.But its birth wasn't easy...The prototype was based on a Scirocco, with an EA827 engine with dual carburetors and a lowered and stiffened suspension. When Volkswagen's Chief of Research drove this prototype, he objected to the harsh suspension and excessive noise from the intake system and declared the car "undrivable". Nevertheless, the VW Golf GTI team persevered and ended up assembling an exceptional automobile.

With more than 100 wins to its credit, the Honda NSR500 is the most dominant force in modern Grand Prix motorcycle racing. The Honda NSR500 was a two-stroke V4 racer that almost instantly became the reference for all the other manufacturers competing on the 500cc World Championship - now called MotoGP.Introduced in 1984, it won 10 out of the 19 racing seasons of its lifespan, at the hands of racing legends like Wayne Gardner and Valentino Rossi, the latter taking his first World title in one.But it was Mick Doohan that best harnessed the brute force, and alleged bad manners, of the overpowered two-stroke beast - with an engine dubbed the "Big Bang" what else could be expected? - winning five consecutive World Championships from 94 to 98. But not just winning. It was more like crushing the competition with dominant and overwhelming victories in each of those years. So much so that Doohan was even on record at the time saying that racing had become boring. Boring, he said. The type of boredom you can only get in a 200hp, 130 kg, 2-stroke, bad-tempered, crotch rocket.

Since the early days of motorsport, racing teams have made their cars stand out with unique colors and patterns that have over and over become inseparable from the memory of a particular time in racing history. And, if you know anything about Heel Tread, and you really should if you're into cars, you're probably aware that motorsport liveries are one of our greatest passions and something that we've gone to great lengths to make into the main focus of our vision. Since our beginning, we've had partnerships and collaborations with everything from small teams around the world from karting to hill climbing, to having our logo on the side of a 2019 Le Mans runner-up - Wynn's Racing Ford GT -, to proudly becoming the main sponsor of a Caterham on the Super Seven by Toyo in 2019 (Iberian trophy), which by the way in the meantime became champion of his class - further supporting the rumors that Heel Tread socks can give you a competitive edge of up top 5 extra horsepowers (our lawyers have advised against commenting on these rumors, but you can't argue with this kind of evidence, can you?).Despite 2020s fondness for the continuous boycott of most things we love and very few real motorsport events will actually take place, we decided to go ahead anyway and launch a new and unique Heel Tread livery for "our" Caterham Seven and liked it so much we decided to turn it into a quartet. If you can also feel the difference in performance while wearing them, please feel free to feed the rumors everywhere you can.

The Land Rover Defender is a true icon. The best 4x4xFar, remaining in production for almost 70 years until 2015. At some point, the sequence of events from the 1976 season made it unlikely that either Lauda or Hunt could be crowned champion.
Lauda, seemed effortlessly on course for his second title in a row, by winning five out of the first nine rounds.
Then came the infamous German Grand Prix, held at the so-called “Green Hell”. And hell it was for Lauda, as he inexplicably crashed at one of the easiest corners of the circuit. Brett Lunger couldn’t avoid a brutal collision with the Ferrari. Lauda’s helmet went flying, as his car burst into flames.

In the 80s, Opel played a relevant role in the European rally scene, and no other car from that era stood out more than the Manta B 400 on the German brand's roster. Its gorgeous long and low silhouette conquered fans wherever it went with splendorous sideways action on asphalt and dirt alike. And, thanks to generous use of kevlar on its bodywork, it was light, which also made it popular with rally drivers.

In 1991, Mazda became the first Japanese automaker - and an only rotary-engine racer - to win the world's most demanding endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In the end, it came down to the reliability of the Wankel rotary engine that made up for the lack of speed against the mighty Jaguar and Mercedes competitors.
The unique conditions that enabled this surprising victory - along with a crowd-pleasing high-revving engine with F1-like noise - immediately elevated the 787B to racing legend status.
The orange and green diamond Renown livery makes for a pretty cool looking pair of socks, even if you first had to google "Wankel rotary engine" to get what all the fuss is about.
